TLA Fall Conference

The Texas Library Association will be hosting a fall conference on Saturday, Oct. 13th, at Aldine High School. The following link has all the details, including a program schedule: http://www.txla.org/groups/dist8/meeting.html.

Skimming the details, the conference offers a wide assortment of information and material for current and potential librarians. They range from sessions for enhancing a library's collection and programs to improving a librarian's ability to promote those resources. These include practical sessions with titles like "Collection Development: Planning for Growth and Change" and "Creativity and Kids in the Library". A workshop titled "One Librarian's Trash Bag is Another's Kite" demonstrates how to turn an ordinary trash bag into an inexpensive, easy-to-do craft. There are discussions on social networking for librarians and creating more inviting displays. "Who writes this stuff? Who reads this stuff?" is a teen services workshop that gives a unique view on unique reading material for unique teens. Kind of unique, huh?

It seems to be a serious conference, geared towards growth and development, but delivered in a fun atmosphere with entertaining and helpful topics. And the best part is this one only cost $15 and open to everyone. I am new to these and don't specifically know the going rate, but I've heard numbers much larger than $15 being tossed around before.

Is anyone going to this? I won't be at this Thursday's YA meeting, so please let me know if anyone plans to attend. (And if there will be a discount for a group).
